FAQ
Tenshin Dojo FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) If you are unable to find answers to your questions about Tenshin Dojo on this website, please check these FAQ before sending an email. Fujitani sensei does not understand English very well, and messages may get lost between translations, so please bear with us. Video - "Elegant & Powerful Aikido" 1. How much is Fujitani sensei's video "Elegant & Powerful Aikido," and how can I get a copy? The video is US$60 and is available from Tenshin Dojo upon request using this e-mail order form (to be added soon). Postage from Japan is included in this cost. You will receive an email showing your request and details on how to make payment (bank check or money transfer), and the video will then be sent. 2. Is the video in English? No, Fujitani sensei speaks only Japanese in the video, but there is a full demonstration of each technique, and the name of each technique is titled in English before being shown in detail and at slow speed. 3. What system in the video recorded in? The video is produced in NTSC format (used in Japan and USA), though it can be converted to PAL or other systems before being sent overseas. Please specify the format in your request, if other than NTSC. There is a charge of about $15 for this service in Japan. (It may be cheaper in your own country?) 4. When was the video produced, and what exactly is it about? The video was released for sale in September 1999, and has been produced using digital camera images and computer editing, so the scenes are very clear and easy to see. Fujitani sensei shows a selection of basic techniques, first at normal speed, then slower with repetition. Techniques include Shihonage, Kotegaeshi, Iriminage, and many others. The video ends with students showing how these techniques might be used in an outside, realistic setting. Book - "A Precious Time: My Aikido" 1. How much is Fujitani sensei' book "A Precious Time: My Aikido" and how can I get a copy? This book is currently available in bookstores in Japan (title: "Kicho no Toki: Watashi no Aikido"), but only in Japanese, at a cost of 1,680 Japanese yen. It is a hardcover, B5 size book, with many photos. See the Info page for contact details of the publisher. 2. Is there an English version available? A translation has been written (no photos) and is available on CD-rom or floppy disk. It has been saved as a PDF file, so if you buy the floppy disk you will also need to download Adobe Acrobat (free from http://www.adobe.com/) to be able to read it. The CD version includes a copy of Adobe Acrobat. The cost is US$35 for both the Japanese book and either the CD or floppy disk. This price does not include postage from Japan ($5), but if you also purchase the video "Elegant & Powerful Aikido," then the postage charge will be waived. See the video information above for payment details. 3. When was the book published, and what exactly is it about? The book was published in April 1999, and in it Fujitani Miyako sensei describes her life as it was influenced by aikido, including stories of her marriage to Steven Seagal, the childhood of her two children, Kentaro Seagal and Ayako Fujitani (now both actors and models), and how her own techniques and style of aikido developed from her various life experiences. The book also includes some poetry written by Fujitani sensei, and explanations/hints for several aikido techniques. Studying at Tenshin Dojo 1.
